In the world of black metal there are so many ways to go about it. One way is to be very angry and demented as possible, and the other is to be as depressing as possible. Yes there are many bands who can do both in a way that is completely out of this world.... but in some cases its dull and boring. In the case of Seke Nipahem's Rebirth of Depression it fits the bill of out of this world in distortion and still in some ways depressing and demented with a tab of angry.

As we start the album out you get hit with the title track "Rebirth Of Depression" which surprisingly has this very gritty punk rock meets thrash metal intro that goes into this blast beat progression that then slows into a nice grove like riff. A lot of the songs on this album have that styling or structure with the blasts and groove, kinda like what you'd hear in older death metal so if I had to compare it to any combination it would be like Burzum and Judas Iscariot meets Sodom and Deicide. Now we also have the vocal styling of Dakota BlackMoon with the high and low vocals together which makes a very great and powerful feeling even in songs like "In Depression I Still Reign" which show off this vocal style very well. We also cannot forget the guitar and drum work from Mr. Blackmoon he might not be Zakk Wylde or Pat O' Brien but the guy can play, and yes i know the drums on the album are programmed its obvious but he mixed it well and gave it a nice old school sound like as if you were playing it on a record player. If you want a perfect example of the guitar playing listen to the track Butcher My Soul. It shows off his playing skill very well in my opinion.

Now and album cannot go without flaws, This one is definitely no exception. Granted in black metal bad production quality is there most of the time but on this album its not the guitars, drums or even the bass (Which may I add the drums are obviously programmed at points) Its the vocals. Granted the vocals are great in a performance sense but are mixed poorly and could have had more work on the mixing table. All though I have heard Dakota is using a 15 watt amp, one pedal, no interface and a broken mic to do all of this so in that case its probably the best thing you'll hear with that spotty of equipment.

All in all this album is the best Seke Nipahem album to date and I would recommend this to any black or even death metal fan any day or time. Yes it has its flaws.... But, this is still musically very catchy and written well and preformed well all things considered that's why I give this album an 8.5 out of 10 stars and can't wait to hear another album from this one man project.
