Scumripper are a radioactive beast! Their vile amalgamation of punk, thrash, and early death metal (with a moderate dose of black metal) produces a sound that embodies vengeful, unadulterated anger. Out on Caligari Records (who seldom disappoint) as of 2016, this Finnish band's debut proves extremely promising, fitting right into Finland's long tradition of producing truly unique metal. Heavily influenced by varieties of crust punk/d-beat and the thrash of the 1980s, Scumripper combines Slayer-esque mid-tempo riffage with bursts of black/death metal speed. The vocal delivery here is what really makes the release stand out, emerging somewhere between pissed-as-hell punk and agonizing black metal styles. All this comes slathered in classic death/thrash song structures, infectious guitar riffs, and the occasional humorous sample.

This is not the sort of metal for those seeking occult mysticism or fantastical imagery. This is the sound of a starving sewer creature, simultaneously tortured and fuming, who has surfaced to wreak havoc on the society that spit it out. Clocking in at just under twelve minutes, this debut is a concise, uncompromising demonstration of cancerous rage from start to finish. Judging by this release, Scumripper is certain to become a force to be reckoned with for fans of death metal, thrash metal, and general misanthropy.
