Scars - The Nether Hell

Legions Legions Legions! - 75%

angelo_paz, August 10th, 2007

Once upon a time, I've bought a ticket to a Krisiun's show (Scars would be the opening act), and with it came this EP (gratis). I had never listened to Scars before. The surprise was very rewarding...

“Creatures that Come Alive in the Dark” opens the EP, breaking the silence with a great great riff! It made me remember the good'old Destruction! And the music never stops: 4 minutes and 27 seconds of “thrash 'till die”. And don't forget the responsible guitar solo, influenced by Exodus, Sepultura, and similars.

The EP follows with “Warfare”, very good song, but not so good than the first one. “Nether Hell” gives your neck a chance to rest. The song isn't so bad, but I think that something has failed... Anyway, every Thrash Metal album must have a slow track, don't you agree?

If the title track diminishes the speed of the thrashing, “Legions (Forgotten by the Gods)” turns it up to 250mph, mainly in the refrain, when a reverbed vocal claims for vengeance!

“Return to the Killing Ground” is another good song, which is there just to complete the lenght of the disc. But the “grand finale” with “Hidden Roots of Evil” rescues the success of the album.

Contrabalancing, “The Nether Hell” was a good EP, that gave Scars a great chance to go up in the crowded brazilian Thrash Metal scene. If you have the oportunity, listen to it. You'll not repent.
