Sargeist - Lair of Necromancy

Will not disappoint long-time fans - 100%

ondspiritism, September 6th, 2012

Sargeist’s two track EP, ‘Lair of Necromancy’, released on November 23, 11 by Hospital Productions is yet another step further into darkness for the Finnish black metal scene.

‘Nightmares and Necromancy’ is an excellent track to invite the listener into this masterpiece. The atmosphere is undeniably dark and surreal. Something that causes Sargeist to stand out among others within the black metal scene is that they incorporate extremely melodic riffs which invoke both mystery and darkness. It takes a lot of talent to throw such melodic riffs into a raw black metal sound without losing its evil essence, but Sargeist do this with success yet again. The bass blends perfectly into the mix, complementing all other instruments. The drums are galloping and quick – befitting in lighting the flame that is Sargeist. The vocals seem to flow with the melodic and scorching riffs, non-intrusive and yet filthy and nasally. The Moon Growing Colder’ completes the EP with a relentless energy that tears at the very depths of hell.

‘Lair of Necromancy’ is yet another gem among Sargeist releases; if you enjoyed ‘Let the Devil In’, this will not disappoint.
