Ruin Lust are back with their third album of war metal violence.
Drums and growling riffs set in a doomy and foreboding soundscape that grows and mutates with a ferociously unnerving sound, gripping from the very start. The storm of brooding aggression ensues with murky guitars and hammered drums convulsing into life with a decimating blend of savage rhythmic assaults and grimy whammy diving leads, dropping a nuclear bomb of pure extremity with the vicious vocals soon grunting through the barbaric instrumentals. The howling void of grimacing and punishing musicianship is surprisingly atmospheric with a monolithically large sound of pure vitriol that is as disturbingly bleak as it is bitterly caustic.
With plentiful doomy drudges through putrid scolding drum fills and dragged out guitars interspersed in the monstrously fierce blast-beats and tremolo riffs, there are plenty of noteworthy riffs, killer drums and hideous vocals while keeping the war metal primality and hatred stoically at the heart of the sound. Although less simplistic than your average war metal band, this is not some pretentiously experimental material, just a very impressive evolution of one of extreme metal’s oldest sounds.
Bellowing, demonic and visceral, this record lands some incredibly heavy blows in its half an hour running time that are definitely worth sticking around for. Eerily dark and creepy too, there is no denying this is a rather interesting release akin to the likes of Cult Of Extinction and Infernal Coil, delving into the more estranged possibilities of the genre while retaining that primitive, solid and blundering feel of pure violent war metal. There is only one thing that disgruntles me about this record and that is that certain sections feel overly drawn out to the point they can be slightly repetitive, aside from this however it is a masterfully meaty inferno of hellish visions and crushing musicianship with plenty of unhinged instrumental and vocal barbarism to keep the flame of aggression burning in the forefront.
A destructive slab of rampaging extremism that must be heard by any seekers of true devastation in musical form.
