Rise to Fall - Into Zero

Rise To Fall - Into Zero - 92%

Edmund Sackbauer, January 29th, 2019
Written based on this version: 2018, CD, Independent

Although being a pretty youngish band “Into Zero” marks album number four proving that these Spanish Melodic DM warriors are hard-working musicians with a clear goal. Having split up with their former label Coroner Records for whatever reason this is their first album released independently. That being said this record is oozing professionalism on each account showing a clear improvement compared to what they have released before.

The main ingredient is more or less your typical Gothenburg riffing but guitarists Hugo and Javier are playing with so much energy and passion that most bands of the old guard might wish to have produced some of the chords and hooks by themselves on their more recent outputs. The melodic lead parts are pitched against fantastic trademark riffs forming an awesome symbiosis. While the overall sound is pretty modern I am glad to say that the backbone of the music is quite traditional without any exorbitantly chugging Metalcore parts.

The drumming is on point supporting the uplifting guitar work. There are moments where the tempo is slowed down for a while and drummer Xabier knows exactly when to step back and when certain sections need a bit more intensity by adding some blast-beats and ultra-fast fills.

The biggest asset of Rise to Fall are their songwriting skills. Nearly each single track presents ultimately remarkable hooks and catchy melodies. Some of the clean sung vocals might come across as sounding a bit poppy but it is nearly impossible to not getting swept away by the epic soundscapes. The songs are structured in a coherent way so that it is easy for the listener to follow what is going on without sounding too simple or boring. Soloing sections are well implemented and perfectly placed to keep the flow of the album going.

Of course such kind of music does need a modern and powerful production and I am glad to report that Rise to Fall managed exactly to achieve that. The mix is tight and clear with all elements being perfectly audible. The guitars are heavy and crunchy while the drums have the much needed punch without sounding too sterile.

While I am normally focusing on more traditional styles of Metal I am more than impressed by the skills these guys have been showing here. “Into Zero” is a fantastic album for driving around in the car or tormenting your own body in a little workout session. I guarantee that this album will help to get your blood pumping.
