Blasting into life with melodious guitars atop waves of crashing cymbals, the anticipation for maniacal speeding music builds but without keeping us waiting long enough to get bored. The warm bass tone adds soulful harmonies to the soaring guitars to give us a very Iron Maiden-esque introduction that gloriously opens the album with magical energies abound. Picking the pace up with galloping rhythmic punches, the superbly tight instrumentals and totally over-the-top vocals show not only the skill but more importantly the sheer passion of this band from the off. Having been a fan for a few years, I am used to and rather enchanted by their sort of off-kilter but really killer brand of Heavy Metal, but I feel also newcomers can be won over quickly by their simplistic bravado and exciting songwriting. If the earlier moments don’t convince you and perhaps they shan’t then bow out now, but for the lovers of crazed South American heavy metal who stick around, it’ll be worth your while.
Between the tried and tested measures of epic songwriting, catchy rhythms and soaring lead work, the soloing and also dynamics of the guitars and the thankfully present bass makes for a really all-encompassing listen that the snappy drum work ties together beautifully. The vocals are piercing in a way that might be tricky for some, but I personally find really suit the frantic and yet melodic nature of the music and lend something undeniably South American to the sound of the band. Production-wise we are given a warm and very clear sound that isn’t compressed to dust and perfectly showcases that one doesn’t need a huge budget or tons of technology to make a record sound great. Similarly the artwork seems to recall to something between NWOBHM from the 80s and European power metal from the early 2000s, fitting the release and providing one cool aesthetic accompaniment at the same time. Lyrically the music is what one would expect from the titles such as “Metal For Freedom”, “Speed Rock ‘n’ Roll” and “Wild and Obscene”, all of which paint a picture of debaucherous metallic fun.
Another excellent, contagious and well-crafted cut of pure heavy metal steel from Revenge! Song after song provides us with a strike of adrenaline-inducing force that cannot be escaped. Heads will be, fists will pound and Revenge rise victorious once again during their lengthy career.
