With the new album on it's way and the track preview that I listened quite a lot on the past few days, I decided that the current pandemic-induced isolation was the perfect time to do a Revenge binge, and re-listen to all their discography. I realized that I really think that Revenge got overall better with each album, despite the loss of Helmkamp, mainly due to a work on the production that really do enhance the crushing, unrelenting beating of the drums, and the psychotic vocals, which are the main driving force of Revenge.
But there is one exception to that progression, and it's this EP. It's only 2 songs, 8 minutes but holy fuck, these must be the most obliterating songs ever written in all Revenge/Conqueror carrier. It's just one step above; like I said I listen to a boatload of Revenge in random order the past few days, doing random things, but each time this monstrosity came in I just stopped whatever I was doing and stared at my speaker, astonished. There is not an apparently huge difference between this and the rest of their work, but it feel just... more. Closer to the quintessential hatred of James Read, I dont know. Anyway it's a work worth of praise, for achieving something so pure, stripped of artifice ( the sometimes lame goregrind voice for example), which channel so much raw energy in a mere 8 minutes is really something to behold.
And this greatness add only to the frustration that grow when you know that these two songs were originally written for the second Conqueror album, and are just a glimpse of what could have been unleashed. Sad.
