Long Island, New York, is the home of many influential hardcore acts throughout the 80's and 90's. However, there is one band that wishes to play something different from their peers, and that band is known as Revenance. This band is mostly brutal death metal if you leave it at that, but could also be labeled "deathcore" due to its hardcore-laden influences as well. Whatever it's known as, they can sure play their style of music well. The vocal style fits the band's music well and consists of a higher-pitched yell and a guttural.
The opener track, "Educated Judiatry", is sure to catch the attention, but it's the track "Five Shots" that is a definite standout with an addictive intro chord and the vocal stylings of Joe Marchese. "Phenecyclimone" has a killer riff in the middle of the song. "Omen of Tragedy", the title track, has a pretty nice melodic solo within 2:30 of the song. The bass is actually audible, and the guitar riffs are sick.
As much as I enjoy this, the CD can seem to run together at parts. However, if you don't mind that, you'll enjoy "Omen of Tragedy".
