The latest release of the up-and-coming Italian label Permeated Records arrived in my mailbox a couple of weeks ago. And at first I was a bit sceptic, actually. But after a few more listens I got the brutality and ferocity of this band. Heavy-as-hell, churning riffs with plenty of blastbeats and breakdowns, and with blood-spewing gored growls and screams.
It sorta reminds me of Dying Fetus at times, and even taking the oh-so-heavy riffing from Six Feet Under at times, to be draped in the breakdowns of hardcore. Which leaves an awesome blend of pulverizing hardcorish brutal death metal that can just as easily disembowel you, rip out your spinal cord and hack out your eyeballs in a twitch, as it can spark your anger and hatred for the state. The latter one is caused by the pissed off political agenda that’s mixed in with the bloody and gory hack ‘n’ slash lyrics. The opening track Educated Judiatry is as hateful as it is brutal, concerning coppers. And well, let’s just say that Revenance aint too fond of the police! And about 35 seconds into Somebody Kill Something you’re in for a real treat. I won’t tell you what it is, but it’s oh-so-cool!
This is the bands debut album, and it shows us a talented, multi-faceted death metal act ready to conquer the world.
