The Canadian black/death outfit Revelator has been around since 2016, but has only dropped two releases in that time, both in the form of demos. The second of those, simply titled Revelator II is a pretty harsh and pummeling ride through the genre. Riffwise, it very much lies on the death metal side of things, boasting clarity not only in execution but in the tones as well. This is co-opted by crushing vocal shrieks that bring a sinister edge to the otherwise raw and rough construction. It's a bit strange how the two mix together without sounding awkward, since every instrument nearly acts independent of the others in regards to tone, but it ends up working decently enough.
My only real complaint would be the fact that the mix of the vocals causes them to drown out the instruments entirely from time to time. But when the guitars take the forefront, it's pretty sharp. "Inside My Cryptic Chambers" has such a strong solo, displaying some pretty strong talent in the lead guitar realm, and the bass presence in the intro of "The Hell Of The Irons" is quite nice. I certainly wouldn't mind hearing what a full length could accomplish by this band, since what we have here is a minimal but solid start.
