Resurrected Divinity - Escaping the Black

Raw, Nasty BDM - 72%

Resurrected Divinity exemplifies grimy, compressed and raw brutal death metal that also borders on goregrind with extremely slimy vocals and a chainsaw guitar tone, as well as biscuit tin drums and an overpowering layer of static. The songs, as you'd expect, are very short and to-the-point, as well as lacking catenation in terms of songwriting with extremely fast bursts of aggressive, noisy death metal. As you know, brutal death metal of this kind that is less sophisticated, is more focused on pure impact and velocity, with unending slams and blast beats. I find this enjoyable because of the sheer energy combined with tight drumming and chugging, but I would understand why people would find this grating to listen to, since the blatant lack of dynamics doesn't offer much melodically.

The riffs primarily consist of staccato picking and broken chords, creating disturbing imagery with barbaric impact and also featuring very layered guitar tracks to add to the processed and grimy sound of the record. When the band does pick the tempo up, the playing is more precise than you would think, and there are even discordant melodies throughout the album. In contrast, the drums are pretty irritating. The constant clank of the snare hit is just tiring to hear after almost a straight hour. If the drumming is going to be exclusively blasts, at least make sure that the tone of the drums don't ruin the rhythm section.

So far a lot of the aspects I've mentioned are very typical of grind/death metal. Once again, this is a very standard band of this style of metal, without much difference between each track. The lyrical themes revolve around general depravity; gore, sin, and whatever else you'd hear from a BDM band, and honestly it's impressive how in-depth these lyrics are considering the caveman-ish grunts. Don't expect much difference from other bands with this release, but it's a solid grind/BDM debut with plenty of brutality and rawness for fans of underground metal that has rough production and unbridled impact.
