Remasculate - Perversemonger - 90%

Phuling, April 19th, 2008

Boy oh boy, this is one gruffy trip into the gore-soaked domain of Remasculate. This is their second album, and here they show a more mature and developed sound than on their debut "Blend in and juice them". They’re still not afraid to dangle in between the humorous goregrind and ultra-brutal death metal, and if there’s a way to make a pun out of a normal sentence, Remasculate will do so.

The raging blasting drums finds a mate in the chunky riffing and gory growls, which just spews forth blood and pus in all directions. It wouldn’t surprise me if youngsters where to have nightmares about the "Boogie man", "Chewing gums" and with a serious case of "Flaturbulence", if you were to subject the kid to this album. While their emphasis seems to be on brutality and speed, Perversemonger offers some hints of melodic death metal at times, and there’s also a fair share of slower tunes.

As I mentioned earlier this sounds much more mature than their previous works, meaning everything flows together much more smoothly. The instrument interaction is perfect and the sound is real hefty, which lets the chunky riffing come at you like a meatcleaver in an 70ies or 80ies splatter flick. It’s almost like it’s the soundtrack to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre mixed with Napoleon Dynamite. Brutality, horror and humour in one.
