This is the debut album of the Swedish power metal band ReinXeed. It is your typical power metal album, no more and no less.
Lets start with the mastermind behind this piece of music: Tommy is a very talented musician and songwriter with an extraordinary ability to write memorable hooks. The playing on this album is above average and his singing is good, even though it can become a little annoying with his high-pitched screams sometimes. The songs all follow a standard power metal template with fantasy lyrics, classical themes and sing-along melodies.
The album production fits the music nicely and you can hear all the instruments (except the bass, unfortunately) clearly. If there is anything to complain about here it would be the keyboard sounds. Some of the sounds used for keyboard-leads are plain horrid and gives me the creeps, but that’s just me.
The songs are all well written and have some great hooks. There is also some progressive influences and orchestral parts in some of the song that reminds me of Symphony X. The first song The Light sets the mood for the whole album and contains all the elements mentioned above. The rest of the songs all varies in tempo and gives the album some nice dynamics that makes it more easy to listen to (it would be really boring to listen to ten mid-tempo songs or ten ballads).
This album is for anyone and everyone that likes power metal with catchy melodies and orchestral parts like Rhapsody (of Fire) and some more progressive parts like Symphony X.
Highlights: The Light, Shyrheny and Northern Sky.
