I loved this New Zealand speed metal band's last EP ‘Coming Out’ and I have waited with anticipation for this debut album to finally come out. Not only is the album gloriously presented in 12 inch vinyl, the gatefold sleeve is an epic piece of real heavy metal artwork and that is something much more worthwhile than a soulless mp3 album.
Razorwyre have developed from their early moniker of Gaywyre to sound like a band that are playing my Noise Records collection from the 80’s! The sound is speed metal mixed with more NWOBHM (especially the vocal tone that can be compared to Grim Reaper's Steve Grimmett) and this is a major development from their debut EP that was more a pure speed metal assault. ‘The Conjuror (Shaman’s Wrath)’ is one of those tracks that makes you air guitar and headbang and it is also a track that shows that this is a mark of a truly memorable release via the tracks melody. Razorwyre's music reminds me of classic albums like ‘The Walls of Jericho’ and even Agent Steel’s ‘Skeptics Apocalypse’ as there are violent high pitched screams akin to those two classic albums. But what is surprising is the albums variation and pace that constantly rasies the bar of Razorwyre's achievements to date. ‘Fight Or Be Fucked’ has classic Malice/Priest influence that is insanely infectious and continues Razorwyre's high standard of song writing and shows that they are not a simple one trick pony.
Razorwyre’s ‘Another Dimension’ is a speed metal/traditional metal album that has the ability to encircle the world and if tracks like ‘Nightblade’ are anything to go by, then they will be very justifiable in doing so.
