Rasp - Razor Assisted Suicide Planet

A fun chunk of grindcore. - 85%

Funerealm, February 5th, 2009

I originally found this album for sale on Sevared Record's site, and I figured since it was cheap and i was already making an order there, I might as well pick it up. I've got to say that it was a pretty good find. It's a nice chunk of mid-paced crust grind/death metal that never fails me whenever I need to headbang.

Vocals: The vocals on this album are mostly high pitched screams, with occasional low grunts contributed by the drummer. At one point you can hear some hardcore -esque shouting, but it doesn't show up very much.

Guitars: Guitars are fun on this album. Reasonably clear, and a good tone to boot. They are usually chugging around mid pace, with more emphasis on groove as opposed to speed, and it suits this band very well.

Drums: These are usually played at a mid paced level. Most blast beats aren't blindingly fast, like some grind is. What I like about this drummer is that he doesn't limit himself to using just blast beats. He allows himself to do other beats as well, and uses blast beats at appropriate times. He also tends to do some more interesting patterns on the ride cymbal than a lot of these kinds of drummers, as opposed to simple quarter, eighth, or sixteenth notes.

Overall Production is good enough. Riffs and vocals are done pretty cleanly. There are a few hiccups in the songs, though. Basically like there's a scratch on the CD, though I've checked mine multiple times, and it's free of scratches. The most notable skips are at the beginning of 'No War To Win' and one at the end of 'Placebo'. Also, in regards to the sound levels and mixing, then drums are very far in the background. Sometimes you can hardly hear them at all.

Taking all this into account, I'd recommend this to anyone who can find the damn thing.

Sincerely,
The owner of copy #19.
