I really, really enjoy this album! This has got to be one of my favorite releases from the UK. Everything on this album is high quality!
The album kicks in with the title track, and begins with a slow headbanging riff, with a melodic guitar harmony over the top. That quickly moves faster! Normally I'm not a fan of anything that is too melodic, because it is very overrated and I happen to think it is very boring/cheap. These dudes pull it off very well!! I like it because it is not over used in this album.
The best part about this album is easily the "moshing riffs". It's like they just know what people, me specifically, like to mosh too and write a ton of those riffs! One of my favorite "violent, punch someone in the face mosh riffs" is the whole middle section of D.I.V.E. at around 2:28. It is very Slayeresque and really makes you want to throw down! Another riff from that same song is the kick in at :26 or so in. I love these "anthrax walk circle pit" riffs. They are all over this album and it is the reason this album is so worth it!
Another thing that makes this a thrash classic is the old school thrash, and almost punkish, vocals. I'm very instrument driven and I normally don't pay too much attention to vocals, but the second I heard them I immediately thought of Agnostic Front and the Anti-Nowhere League. They work very well with the music and really stand out to me. Along with the fist pumping group shouts! They happen all over this thrashy bastard and it is just amazing.
The only reason I wouldn't give it a perfect score is that I kinda miss the old school thrash blast beats on the drums. Not Blast Beats per say, but the rapid fire snare kick, snare kick, fast as hell beats. But, it's not anything that keeps it from getting my recommendation! I just wish they had some in there that's all. But, they more than make up for it with the monster moshing riffs.
This is a definite must get thrash album. If you are like me and you love to mosh.. GET IT!
Favorite tracks: D.I.V.E. (obviously), Visual Violence, Rapid Deployment.
