Persian Risk - Ridin' High

Such a hidden gem - 100%

overkill666, October 18th, 2008

Persian Risk is such a heavy metal gem, and if you're into heavy metal (which you should be), you should have this. This is a lesser known NWOBHM that should have more recognition because they are very fun to listen to.

Persian Risk is not so different from other NWOBHM bands in sound, but they have their own style going on. The guitar style is not focused on being over heavy, but it is a bit thick at some points. There are a lot of moments where the guitar gets melodic, and a bit happy sounding. Though, with a heavy metal band, particularly from the 1980's, it is very common. There are guitar solos on both tracks of this record, and they are very good. The best one is on 'Ridin' High'. The bassist also has his moments too. It's very audible, and fits the mix very nicely. The bass follows along with the guitar for the most part. The drumming is pretty spiffy, and goes into the mix nicely. Every now and then you get a dose of speed from the drums because of his different drum variations. The vocalist is a very good singer, and his voice is very powerful to the music. He has one of those voices that just makes you know this band is from the 80's. The vocalist gives Persian Risk a very sharp edge.

I'm very disappointed that I don't have this vinyl. This would be a gem to have in your collection, though I doubt you could find this anywhere. I'd recommend you try to look into this band, they really need more recognition for what they have released. This is 1980's heavy metal at its finest.
