Pain of Salvation - BE

...Wow - 100%

danyates, July 16th, 2005

Amazing.

They released a live DVD of the greatest album ever. And even better, I can take this live performance anywhere, because it comes with a CD as well!

But, the live performance is a little bit different than the studio version of the album. The lyrics are a bit different, and sometimes there aren't any lyrics at all. I was also glad that there was not a large reaction from the audience, because I think that would have ruined the entire show. This is not the type of album you want people singing along to or clapping too. Good thing Pain of Salvation played this live before they recorded it...

Anyway, back to the reviewing. Each and every track is just as good or way better than the studio version. The visual part about the DVD is great, because you can see the emotional aspect of the album, rather than just hearing it. The atmosphere of this DVD is perfect. Daniel Gildenlow plays Mr. Money perfectly, and I thought it was funny when every band member had the black sun glasses on duruing Dea Pecuniae. Sometimes there is pre-shot video played over the concert, and it really brings the album concept to life. If only all concept albums were released on DVD as well, like this one...

My favorite track, Iter Impius is AWESOME. The vocals are different, but they express the anger that Mr. Money has. He rules everything. He rules the ruins. The guitar solo is different as well.

But all to this DVD is not just the music. There are two commentary tracks, and every single message left on God's answering machine. The first commentary track explains the concept as the show goes on, and explains problems they had recording, or other things about the band and that song. The second commentary track...the "real" commentary track, are a set of hilarious jokes about the album, and the truth about Johan the drummer!

100 just doesn't rate this DVD accurately. 150 is more like it. I cannot find one reason progressive fans shouldn't buy this DVD. This is the best DVD I own, and I don't think that will ever change. It is perfect.
