Ossuary's Fat can be described as old school brutal death metal. It's not the best, but it's still better than a lot of the other death metal out there. Not particularly easy to find, I sometimes wonder why bands like this didn't get a little more popular. It has a deafening sound that would appeal to the ears of the death metal crowd. It's not nearly as good as Death and Jungle Rot (two of my favorite death metal bands), but surely better than Deicide and Morbid Angel.
'Man Of God' has a good riff to it. These are backed by the leading typical death vocals. The lyrics don't make a lot of sense, but the music is well-written (initially). The chorus flows well and doesn't sound like muffled crap as many death and grind bands do. Along with the death vocals, there are also screechy/raspy wails similar to black metal vocals and they get annoying. The song deteriorates, as eventually they just keep shouting 'Man Of God'. Overall, it's still the best track on Fat. The old school death metal disappears for a moment on 'Emotional Parasite'. It's like new grind/black metal or something. It's a totally different sound and I don't like it.
The other two tracks have average riffs. There's not too much variation among the chords they play. After some time it gets bland. In its entirety, the album is lacking. I can tolerate it, but after awhile it gets aggravating. The lyrics aren't spectacular and its main fault continues to be the black metal vocals slowing it down. Let’s say it’s alright in small doses.
If you're a general death metal fan, you might want to check them out, but at your own risk. At times Ossuary reminds me of Obituary, but not as good. To sum things up, this album is lacking, good at times, but after track one the album deteriorates. For me, it was a let down.
