Omen of Death - Demo II

Omen of Death's Demo II - 91%

asgrachfohlin, March 5th, 2011

I have to say by listening to this it sure did bring back good memories of the original black metal scene. Omen of Death, to me, isn't one of these new rip offs that plague the underground, and not another bed room myspace project band. The tone of the guitar is filthy and powerful, and the drums are raw and buried. The vocals are loud and aggressive. I do have to be honest, getting this was quite hard, I had to contact the band myself to recieve this demo, considering you can't download or buy it anywhere, which was all seriously worth it.

The introduction starts us out with a eary sound, as if building up the suspense for a attack or some serious warfare. The only issue I can address here is that it lasts too long, half should have been just cut off personally. But that isn't to say that the song all together is bad, its good ambience, and perfect quality for such a raw demo.

Black mountains has to be my favorite, it starts us off with more ambience, and then impales us with the dirty attack power of black metal! The vocals are amazing, totally reminds me of what black metal used to be. Also another thing I haven't mentioned, this band calls themselves "keasmonic black metal" based off of their lyric content. If this is what keasmonic black metal is going to sound like, then I must say it will be an improvement for the black metal industry.

The next song on the list is as night falls. Same thing going on here as with black mountains, very filthy. This one I have to say sounds like a song that would be played for a mosh pit. But this is also the least best song on here, since it drags itself out a little longer then it should have. But none the less, its a good song.

This next one, hordes of the north, is a fast paced song fit for battle. Gives you the atmosphere of a wartone barron field of ice and the sound of warfare. This is probably the highlight of the album (this and black mountains). In the beginning we are introduced with a symphonic kind of sound with Vaskosk speaking, which kind of sets the mood for the song. And then rolls in with the sound of keasmonic black metal. Also midway through the song is a small part which sounds like orchestral work. Overall, excelent song, and a epic solo at the end.

Blackened sunn is not like the rest of these songs, the atmosphere is unique, and the lyrical content is different. Speaking of a star threatening the solar system. The vocals drown out most of the insturments. I did forget to mention this song is a remake of the song blackened sunn in their first two releases. But overall, great work.

The outro is pretty much the same as the intro, it just has a darker feeling to it. It does suffer the same issue as the intro, it lasts too long. But is better then the intro. This was a great way to close out the album. Also, there is a hidden track that rolls in after this. It has the same feeling as hordes of the north, but with no insturments. Its ambience like the intro and outro, also with Vaskosk speaking. The lyrical subject matter is silly in this one. But its a fun track to listen to overall, with a great ending to such an amazing demo.

I highly suggest this to anyone who are fans of any kind of war metal and fans of the old fashion black metal bands. I do see a great future for this band. The only issues this demo has is that some of it is dragged out too long. But still shouldn't be a reason to not get it. And like I said, if this is what keasmonic black metal sounds like, then hopefully it will be the future of black metal.
