OCONNOR – VIVE SIEMPRE.
“Vive Siempre” is O’Connor’s first (and up to date, the only) live album. It’s more or less well-crafted; counting with a good sound quality, a tight performance and strong stage presence.
I’ve attended to the show in which the live album’s recording took place (24-05-2003 at El Teatro) and it was damn good. The live atmosphere was inspiring and therefore the show was OK. This brings me to one of the most important points of the review. I could have given this album a higher rating as the song selection was very good but what brought down its score was the fade-out effect in between the songs, this can play against the atmosphere that the live album is supposed to create.
They played some of the band’s latest stuff at the moment, songs from “Dolorización” like “Ciencia Satanica”, “No Quisiste Entender” and that awful Beatles cover, “Eleonor Rigby”, all-time classics like “Canibal”, “Se Extraña Araña” and “Reflexion”, the Black Sabbath cover “Supernaut”, and three songs from Hermetica, “Del Camionero”, “Victimas Del Vaciamiento”, “Memoria De SIglos”.
Claudio Strunz was guest drummer in those three songs and also in “La Gran 7” which wasn’t included because Strunz fucked up the song entering late and missing the drum basis.
The album ends with a bonus track recorded in the studio, it’s a heavy and mid-paced song called “Reventar O Morir” featuring a plethora of enjoyable riffs.
Conclusion: It’s a nice release and a damn real testimony as to what an Oconnor show was back in 2003 but it lacks some of the components that make good live albums become glorious or legendary.
