Well, let me just start this off by saying that i have seen this band live many times. Each time I saw them they were freaking amazing, everybody in the band gives it their all, the vocalist shrieks at the top of his lungs, the lead guitarist shreds up the riffs like he's on speed and the bassist slams those poor strings with his mighty hands until they're red hot. These guy's know what metal is all about and they are a perfect example of Nova Scotia's kickass metal scene.
Alright now to the album, It kicks ass, the melody and brutality all mix together in a near perfect storm of unbelievable speed, screaming, blasting, and riffing. The guitars all have a really ice tone and you can hear the bass pretty well. The drums sound really good and they are pretty brutal, Hellhammer would be proud. There are 10 songs, one of them being an instrumental which starts off with a pitch shifted speech that sounds totally awesome for reasons you just cant explain.
Time for a song by song analysis:
Blastocyst Assassination: This song starts out with some nice creepy cave-like sounds then the riff starts up, then the drums, and then it kicks into full swing. The vocalist starts and he sounds fucking pissed. The rest of the song lets you know that these guys aren't messing around, there is blast beats and crazy riffage that will make you shit your pants. Also when the song finally slows down the guitar riffs start getting really awesome, then the solo starts and the guitarist shreds up a fucking storm. 10/10
Indoctrinated: The song begins with some mild tempo riff, then slows down and the vocals begin, again his high shrieks kick ass, but then the bass player throws in some of the deepest most brutal low growls iv'e ever heard, a very nice touch.
The entire song flows really nicely and keeps the brutality coming. then the song gets really slow and melodic, and kicks serious ass. The guitars are shredding up some beautiful licks. then the song goes very black metal and has a really cold riff that seems almost sad in nature. the song then ends with a kickass scream that rings out till the end. 10/10
The Apocrypha: The opening riff starts up and rips your brain to pieces with it's intensity, then the second riff starts up and the speed is amazing. The song then slows down significantly but i love it, the riff is really melodic and black. after that the song speeds up alittle more and the drums are going insane on the bass pedals. then after a while the song gets really slow and the solo starts up, it is a pretty damn good solo that does not let up in insanity. The song then continues on with a nice slow section with lots of shrieking an cool vocal effects thrown in, they add to the song quite nicely. then the guitars and drums start to fade away in nice melody and a piano is left being the only audible instrument playing the same melody, it is a really awesome ending to a really awesome song. 10/10
Seeds of Desecration: My favourite song on the album, it starts with a kickass bass intro, then the guitars and drums come in, all building up speed, all leading up to the next riff, everything stops for a second with one guitar going, then the song gut-fucks you with an amazing shriek and blast beat. The song does not let up in speed and awesomeness for a long time, and it is fucking perfect. Near the end the song finally slows down with a nice black metal style riff, but not for long because then the guitar starts up again and the blast beat starts up, solo time. The solo brings a lot of shred to the table. Then after another chorus the song ends. 10/10
Divine Sedition: It starts out fast and does not let up at all, also the bassist's low growls are back and with a vengeance it seems. The song is a lot shorter than all the others. The song also has a nice slower part to it and that's when the solo starts up. Then the song ends right after that. 8/10
The Rebirth: It starts of quite nicely, then of course it speeds up to near inhuman levels. The whole song itself is pretty damn decent. 9/10
Poison of the Pious: I can't explain in detail how awesome this song is in human language so i wont, all you need to know is that the solo's are beautiful and the riffs all kickass. 10/10
Apologue of the Wicked: Again an insanely brutal and fast song with great riffs, but nothing really special when compared to the others, however the ending is amazingly awesome. 9/10
The Grotesque Presage: Like i said above the song starts with somebody in a pitch shifted voice reading something that sounds like it's straight out of the necronomicon, then the bands rips up your face for 9 minutes with their amazing musicianship. Nuff said. 10/10
Slaves to the Resistance: Coming in from the feedback of the next song with a really nice riff this song has some of the best riffs on the album. It is just amazing, no other way to put it. 10/10
In conclusion come on down to Nova Scotia, meet these guys, and buy their album, you won't be disappointed
