I like the production on this; it sounds like a bootleg recorded from the crowd, all blown out, overly distorted, and brackish. It helps prevent you from hearing that Nunslaughter's been playing the same five or so songs for 24 years now and makes everything just kind of seem more evil. As one of the 'Hell On' series, 'Hell On Switzerland' is just yet another little 7" showcasing the band in the live environment, which is where they're really best; then again, the 7" format is really best for them too. Best of all possible worlds!
Well, Nunslaughter sounds like Nunslaughter, just with worse production than usual which paradoxically ends up being better production. The rendition of 'Fire' is pretty fucking brutal, actually, and Don sounds very ornery in general. The riffs are hard to make out through all of the distortion (apart from the rather distinct ones on 'Power Of Darkness' which I think I now own like 20 different versions of), but it doesn't really matter: listening to this record is more of an experience than an opportunity to pick apart the nonexistant musical intricacies of Nunslaughter.
This is probably my favorite 'Hell On' record by Nunslaughter, so if you had to get one, this is probably the best. Of course, if you want decent production, you should go elsewhere, but if you want to hear raw, primitive death metal the way Nunslaughter has mastered it, look no further.
