Nocturnal Depression is a depressive black metal band that spawned in 2004 from France and is still active as of late 2023. This a late album that harbors a lot of praise in the depressive black metal community and is their most popular album and a really sad feeling album with much melancholy. I also respect Lord Lokhraed because he can still strum even though he only has 2 fingers due to an ailment Lord Lokhraed was born with, which is ectrodactyly, which is impressive and badass. Despite this album not having much variation and complexity, it still manages to convey many emotions.

The vocals and lyrics of this album are obviously very depressing and deal with a lot of negative topics, and the classical black metal style with the high pitched vocals and the occasional wailing and screams of depressive black metal, of which the lyrics are expressed through are perfect for this album. Lord Lokhraed is also the man that does the vocals on this album and he does a great job of both playing guitar, and being a vocalist. I feel the vocals are perfectly expressed in one of the songs from this album, Nostalgia, arguably the best track from this album.

The instruments in this album are kind of bland, but still pretty good. The blend of distorted guitars and clean guitars are a great combination that they pull off well in this album. Even though the distorted guitars are very simple in this album, they are still pretty good. The clean guitars are where the instrumentation in this album really shines. The clean guitars are very sorrowful and the riffs are simple, but lasting, with it sometimes playing broken chords. Same goes for the drums, they are simple but very effective in adding to the overall layers of the songs in this album.

This whole album is summed up as being simple, but portraying lots of emotion. This is still a pretty good depressive black metal album and is relatively popular in the black metal community with some of their best songs being on this album.

Overall this is a solid depressive black metal album, but nothing incredible or as a masterpiece. There is not much complexity to this album and is kind of repetitive with the songs they play. I would still recommend this album and praise it, but this album will always stay as being just better than being mediocre in my mind.
