Slam Slugs from Outta' Space

Nervectomy are a slam/brutal death project hailing from Durban, South Africa. A twisted love child of Duncan Bentley and Kris Xenopolous from the respective Vulvodynia among other acts. "Slam Slugs From Outta' Space" is a classic example of bedroom slam/goregrind.

Now obviously this isn't a serious project, more so just a mash of slam and chug riffs between friends which is fine and all but really doesn't make for an exciting or memorable listen. Bands like Party Cannon and Engutturalment Cephaloslamectomy are able to satirize the slam/brutal death sub-genre whilst still making solid music whereas Nervectomy just come off as uninspired, lazy and juvenile.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this at all and I understand it's a typical trope within the slam scene but I do find it to be unnecessary. The best side of this EP could have been put into the member's more serious projects if not written with a higher standard as I can hardly find any memorable riffs or vocal patterns, heck not even a stomp-inducing slam has been added, just mostly mindless chugging and gurgling. "Slam Slugs From Outta Space" and "The Stench of Anal Puss" feature the most prominent use of random guitar noodling chucked in for the "ROFLMAO" factor. The bass is audible and has a decent sludgy tone to it but is only added in for the deep end (duh) and offers nothing else ie interesting fills or solos. Vocals.......yeah just your regular gurgle and pig squeal affair but done in a humorous manner and I doubt there are any premeditated lyrics (Pretty typical for slam death/goregrind).

And as is typical of any Bandcamp slam act, the production quality leaves a lot to be desired and just reeks of a typical home job (Sorta reminds me of Ingested Lobotomized Remains' later material). The drums are programmed and don't stick out much but do come off as fun during the goregrind-esque polka/skat beats but that's just because I find that style to be fun. Fun, clearly what this project is meant for but being that it's rather forgettable, the updated artwork is cringe worthy (original goes alright) and yeah it's another -ectomy band shows that this EP will sink deep into the vast sea of slammin' sickness and fade into obscurity.
