Necrovile - Engorging the Devourmental Void

Excellent straightforward death metal - 90%

If you're like me and you love death metal. And I mean just, pure, unadulterated death metal without the bells and whistles that would describe a 'modern' death metal band...I guarantee, you will love this record. No clean singing. No clean guitars. The songs aren't too long. Just pure, blast beats (with sense) and brutal yet technical/efficient riffs.

I'm a guitarist myself and I personally admire the guitar sound on this album. The gain is just right and there's a fair amount of mids and the treble is not that sharp. The tuning is not that low (D standard, I believe, so same tuning as Death/old Malevolent Creation) but the riffs are still brutal and technical and you can hear all the harmonics and excellent use of tremolo picking and hammer-ons/pull-offs on the riffs. The vocals are your basic Florida-style death metal vocals and they fit just right with the music. The drums sound awesome as well. The songs can go from 'simple' to technical in seconds without compromising the brutality so you won't be bored.

The songs aren't really groundbreaking, as the whole album is basically a tribute to Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Cryptopsy, and Necrophagist in terms of style, with a touch of Decrepit Birth's...And Time Begins like a cherry on top. And this is NOT BAD AT ALL. It seems to me this was the intent of the band all along and they execute it very well. If they managed to do something original without compromising the brutality and overall, death metal feel (even enhancing it), I would've given this a perfect sore.

All in all, if you want a straightforward death metal album that you can just bang your head to without any qualms whatsoever while having a beer or something, this is for you, my friend. Check it out.
