Ok, so it isn’t as bad as my title would have you believe. But their genre description isn’t exactly completely accurate either. I expected more of a Possessed style death/thrash, and instead I received more of a crossover/speed style demo with harsher vocals. Something just doesn’t quite push them over the edge to be full blown death/thrash. The drumming is all blasts and punk beats with no consistent double bass, they don’t have enough riffs, and the riffs that they do have are pure crossover/speed. But whatever genre Necromancy may be, let us get down to the music at hand.
As I have already mentioned, this demo is a very straightforward crossover/speed album very much in the vein of S.O.D. or D.R.I., just with harsher death vocals. The vocals are probably the most prominent part of the music. They’re powerful, fast, and very loud in the mix. The lyrical content may be a bit goofy, but what the hell did you expect from a band called Necromancy? Songs that AREN’T about magic circles? You should of looked elsewhere.
The basic song structure here is composed of fast paced, catchy riffs that make you want to thrash around in the pit and do a windmill headbang till you vomit beer all over your denim jacket. Well performed solos are peppered throughout the three songs here at the appropriate places. None of them seem forced or out of place, and they even sound like they took a few minutes to write them instead of laying down a one take random piece of shit filler track. The bass lines are somewhat audible, which I wouldn’t of expected to find on a speed/crossover release (although it is a pleasant change of pace). Nothing special though, just following the guitar the whole time. Drumming is pretty standard, just fast blasts and a few gallops here and there. I would of liked to of seen some quick double bass here and there, but I was disappointed when I found none.
All together, this culminates in a quick but fun romp through the pit that will leave you tired and sore the next day. Nothing special, and it gets boring even before its eight minute running time is up, but it’s still better than a lot of other shit out there. Seeing as it is so short, it may be worth your bandwidth if you like speed metal with harsh vocals.
