My Own Fear will celebrate its fourth anniversary. Four years punctuated by line-up changings, gigs and a recording realized as this EP that is running through our ears. They are from the Ile-de-France region (precisely the northern part of the Paris metropolitan area) and serve us old-school thrash/death metal on these 6 tracks, which are good to hear nowadays.
For a first EP, our "Francilian" friends give a lot of themselves. We can feel a good composition work, control and the will to make people move their hair and asses during their shows. The achievement is here, it's clean, well set up, with this pretty cool old-school flavour ! Their main influences bring us back to Death, Kreator, even Cannibal Corpse on a few parts, from a rendering going from raw aggressiveness to well fashioned melodic parts.
However, we can sense a little lack of variation on some other parts that weigh down some tracks a bit, but the band manages not to fall into a trap of brutal-to-sound-brutal by using numerous interesting and various lead guitar parts. Marine's vocals goes on pretty well and is not a "discount store" growl cliché. She varies her singing with clean but aggressive parts that brings a spontaneous and enjoyable effect.
Fulfilled by a very decent production for a first draft, My Own Fear introduces itself as a promising old-school thrash/death metal band. We hope they will get rid of these little imperfections and produce a more encouraging piece anyway.
