Mournful Grace / Historiae - Mournful Grace / Historiae

Various and interesting to discover... - 76%

Maeror, February 23rd, 2007

This strictly limited 7" features two interesting realities of the Italian underground scene, Mournful Grace and Historiae: the former are known in the doom metal scene, while the latter is a recent outcome in black metal.

The side A is the Mournful Grace's one, which proposes a long track called "La Nobiltà del Fallimento" ("The Nobility of Failure"): we can find various sections in this song, all blended together with interesting and sometimes really weird riffs. The slow-paced music of Mournful Grace is well lead by the haunting voice of the singer, and the final result is an original song that is like a melting pot among various influences, from doom to death and black metal.

Side B sees Historiae's "De Karmica Meditatione" ("About Karmic Meditation"). It is a song partially different from what this artist, who also used to play in Mournful Grace, proposed in "Genus MMV". Here there is a strong depressive black metal influence: the ryhthm is slower than what we could listen on the past demo. However, the riffs are still melodic: and it is a trademark of this project. The song is well developed, and do not miss to confirm the great potential of this artist.

In this 7" the quality remains high for all its lenght, and the two bands, yet they propose two different kinds of extreme metal, can be both enjoyed. A release that certainly will become a cult when these bands get the popularity they deserve.
