Mortal Remains - ... Still Thrashing

Not bad indeed - 82%

Exmachete, September 4th, 2007

Mortal Remains are a thrash band from Germany whose demo Still Thrashing I recently came across whilst browsing the web. Never hearing anything of them or about them I thought I would give them a listen.

After listening it becomes apparent that the vocals have a very black metal feel about them, although weak at times are very promising and are a breath of fresh air compared to the frantic screaming commonly used in this genre. Guitar is not the most technical but is used very effectively and there’s a cool little solo towards the end of Respect it’s rather hard to hear though; due to the production. The drum work was pretty good as it isn’t an all out blast fest which is all too common in thrash. Production is good for a demo; all the instruments can be heard pretty well with exception to guitar during the solos.

Mortal Remains are a relatively new band who I hope to hear a lot more from. The style of blackened thrash metal they offer has a great atmosphere that can not be tarnished by the vocals having the occasional weak spot.
