Morbid Perversion - Rites of Lust and Blasphemy

Black Baptism by the Evil Sperm - 90%

Vaseline1980, February 24th, 2023
Written based on this version: 2017, CD, Sociedade dos Mortos (Limited edition)

Recently, something vile and utterly depraved came dropping into my mailbox, and no, it wasn't a love letter from your mom. It was this full length album by the brilliantly named Morbid Perversion, and let's put it out there right away: this fucking slays!!!

Morbid Perversion dabbles in an enervating concoction of death metal, black metal and thrash metal. In practice this comes down to a hateful mixture of bands such as Bestial Warlust, Sarcofago, Blasphemy, Excruciating Pain and a pinch of Sodom from around the time of "Tapping the Vein". The coarse, down-tuned riffing and roaring vitriolic vocals are underpinned by a percussive attack alternating between raging blast beat insanity, pummeling thrash beatings and driving double kick thud. The songs are primarily fast bursts of malevolent energy, with the occasional doomier section thrown in, that rely on pure unfiltered malice and aggression. This is music that goes straight for the jugular, cutting out any unnecessary frills. Throw in a few sprinkles of old school grindcore (think late 80's Napalm Death, Unseen Terror and Terrorizer here) and you have a nice package of raw and vicious thrashing black/death metal here, exuding all kinds of noxious gasses, and this kicks so much ass!

The production is suitably raw but powerful, emanating an atmosphere of impending dread throughout. Perhaps that the guitars could have been somewhat more on the foreground, but this is a mere detail, because this album sounds as evil and rotten as your ex's heart. This is the sound and attitude of the purest underground passion, and I can't get enough of it!

If you are into bands like Impiety, early Angelcorpse, Slaughter Messiah, Black Witchery or any of those mentioned before, this is an album you are not allowed to miss. It may not bring anything new to the table, but it has aggression and conviction coming out of the wazoo. A terrific release without doubt!
