Mine[thorn] - Junk Hive Noir

Industrial nu-metal - 32%

linkavitch, December 10th, 2009

So yeah…this is total crap. Everything that Mine[thorn] did on Junk Hive Noir is horrible and rather unpleasant to listen to. For starters the annoying production, it sounds like something you would find in some crappy nu-metal band. The grating guitars and the deep bass lines bring out some sort of hybrid sound of Korn and Fear Factory. The drums are way too loud in the mix, always hearing the bass drums thumping over and over as the drums drown out the guitars. The vocalist is way too low in the mix also. You can never hear the guy due to the fact that he’s mostly moaning the entire time. He has no voice, and he basically follows two functions, and they are the almost whining moan, or the tuff guy screaming. Plus whenever he goes for the scream it’s just a harsh mess and sounds terrible, reminds me a lot of that guy from Mudvayne to be honest.

When you hear the riffs they're nothing really impressing, a lot of guitar chugging for the most part or some weird melodic break like the one halfway in “Density”. Or how about the fact that the synth line that not only drowns out the guitars is the same throughout each song, it’s literally the same line used for the entire track.

If it wasn’t for the nu-metal style production this would probably just be boring at best, but because of the grating guitars, the overloud bass drum, and not to mention the bad vocalist that make Junk Hive Noir a rather terrible album. Mine[thorn] are almost in a new genre of their own, I shall call it industrial nu-metal, and my advice to you is to completely forget Mine[thorn] and Junk Hive Noir altogether.
