Slava Smrti is the latest album from May Result, alongside The Stone, regarded as the best black metal band is Serbia and also in this part of Europe. Expectations were big, considering the fact that their last album Svetogrdje released in 2004 is highly critically acclaimed and is probably the best album they recorded.
Finally it is here. Released by Battle God Productions as a limited 500 copies digipack and regular slipcase CD version with bonus track. Edition for Serbian (and other ex-yu) markets is released by Grom Records and Take It Or Leave It Records. Cover art is different for these two releases. This time we have a fairly short (for May Result standards) album lasting about 38 minutes. Songs are mostly shorter and full of energy.
Album begins with an intro that leads us to the song Hold This Earth in the Hands of Sulphur, which fairly represents the rest of the album, good riffs, standard vocals and very good production. Drums are played extraordinarily throughout the whole album. I guess the biggest difference from the previous May Result albums is the usage of keyboards which are not as dominant as in Svetogrdje, for example. They are more reduced but also very well fit the songs. Also almost every song ends with a sound of fire. Lyrics are written both in English and Serbian which is not a new thing for this band, but it is a difference from the previous album which is entirely is Serbian. Here the numbers of songs in both languages are equal with addition of Impaled Nazarene cover The Horny And The Horned in international release. Lyrical themes are mostly related to death.
The songs I prefer are Hold This Earth in the Hands of Sulphur, Velika Bela Pricina, At The Cursed Heights of Prokletije and Slava Smrti.
To sum up, Slava Smrti is a very good album that shows us May Result as a serious and well established band. They continue to develop their music throughout each release and show that black metal can be alive and well in all parts of Europe.
