Marsh - Life's Contradiction - 80%

An excellent menagerie of homebrew black metal full of both grit and brilliance. This sort of thing is enjoyable for those looking to find a vacation from the overproduced and generic black metal one can commonly find in the record stores. Thus it's safe to say that this is a fine wine, or rather a collection of fine wine left in a cellar to age.

From the wandering and simple, "Autumn Trees & Mechanized Limbs" to the rawness found in, "Thoughts From Different Plains". In the end there is alot of variation, which shows perfectly KDY's range. Some of it is gentle with a blanketing distortion, yet there are other tracks which have an element of hatred to them, harkening back to the days of Ildjarn.

I enjoy his simple playing and bouncing rhythms quite a bit. A drum machine is also a plus - truly gives it that homebrewed black metal feel, which I love quite a bit for it's personal touches. The vocals are also neat, but I wouldn't say revolutionary: distorted croaks aren't anything new in black metal, and before someone thinks this is a bad thing - its not. The vocals work out quite well. Even more so given their sparse amount in this album.

All in all, a good album for anyone who likes homebrewed black metal done competently.
