Marcio Dentro is Italian meaning something like „Rotten Inside“ in case Google translator has done a proper job. With such a band name and an album title like “The Dawn Of A Zombie Society” it becomes pretty obvious that the subject of this review is not going to be some Melodic AOR album.
What we got instead is an extremely brutal piece of extreme Metal. This album is sinister and putrid and while listening to it my brain convinced my nose that the stench of some rotten cadavers can be smelled. The riffs are insanely heavy relentlessly blasting out of the speakers without giving the listener a real break. There is a lot going on with chords being introduced just to be followed by the next one shortly after. A lot of technical sections have been implemented within the tracks but also slower break-downs are sprinkled across the record. New ideas can be found at every corner and especially the drumming is really insane adding fills and blast-beats without end.
Although insanity reigns quite often the band somehow manages to sound really groovy at the same time. Just when you think you are going to bog down in a swamp of chaos the guys are churning out some straight rocking grooves that will make your head bang. Marcio Dentro are walking the fine line between a more brutal and technical brand of DM and a pretty traditional Old School style. If I had to think of any comparisons I would say something along the lines of Suffocation with a bit more directness and rawness or Cannibal Corpse with ramped up complexity and madness. The songwriting offers a few real highlights that might need more than one spin to be fully discovered. There is nothing really catchy at the surface but some sections have a subtle kind of accessibility.
Band founder and singer Nix has a great and very brutal tone. His delivery is absolutely sick and intense. His growling and barking is so deep that the lyrics cannot always be understood 100 % but this aspect is just adding to the overall aggressiveness of the music and fits the instrumentation like a glove.
The production is spot-on combining clarity and a good portion of putridity. The sound has an immense punch and enough dirt so that fans of this style of music will be very happy. Whoever did the mixing and the mastering absolutely delivered on that front.
A slightly disturbing cover artwork is rounding off this rotten piece of music making “The Dawn Of A Zombie Society” a record any fan of the mentioned Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse or also Cattle Decapitation should give a try.
