Malicious Death - War and Power

"The legion is here!" - 85%

Nailgunner, November 29th, 2005

This is the second full length album from the elite finnish old-school thrashers. What we get here is a tight slab of fast paced metal, with simple shredding riffs in the style of early Kreator/Slayer/Destruction and the likes. Throw in one Motörhead style rocker and a couple stranger Voivod -influenced riffs, fast drumming and raw vocals and you have a quite good idea of the music. No modern influences to be seen, so those who hate modern Sweden -influenced death/thrash, no fear of disappointment.

Like I said this band is finnish elite, and that's because they are faster and tougher than most of the competitors. The authentic feel of thrash is present all the time, with the uncompromised fast shredding, a couple of midtempo moshers and very traditional lyrics about death, darkness, chaos and evil. In other words, great stuff. The album is very consistent and keeps me interested all the way.

The production is clear and a little raw. I wish it would be a little more brutal though. It still works the way it is and will keep me satisfied until I get their next album. Thrash off your ass!
