Magnetron - Born Witless

Good raw thrash! - 77%

CHRISTI_NS_ANITY8, July 12th, 2009

Magnetron is a band with 13 years of experience in music and at the beginning they played grindcore, to then change style and play thrash metal. Unfortunately, they managed to release only a few demos and no complete albums. The last demo they published is called Born Witless and features a good approach to the classic raw thrash metal. But now, let’s describe the songs a bit.

This demo is made of four songs and each one of them is a furious blast of pure old school thrash metal with evident early death metal elements. The biggest influence comes inevitably from Kreator also for the vocals and the incredible power of the title track we can find right at the beginning . The up tempo is almost always present but the thing that I liked the most here is the break by the end with the more melodic solo. The gang vocals add something more in Bay Area style as we continue with “Nine Men's Morris” is its variety in passing easily from the mid-paced but dynamic moments to the fast restarts. The vocals are always pissed off and nasty, being perfect for the raw but good sounds and the straightforward genre.

“Death By Modesty” has a mid-paced beginning, despite the furious progression we can find after. The old school hardcore elements are more present this time while “Wearing Down The Stones” is again good for the lead lines at the beginning and this time the fast restarts are more in classic thrash style, accompanying us till the end of this record. The skills and the power are already there but I suggest a bit more of variety for the drumming because at times it is too monotonous and simple and a few more rolls can actually add more power, as the use of the double bass. However, I hope something more important, as an album for example, can be put out soon! Good luck!
