Luxúria de Lillith - A Volúpia Infernal

Two great songs that's it - 65%

Scapulla, June 2nd, 2014

When I first saw this CD at my local metal shop, the album cover made me have no interest in the band whatsoever. Although when I saw that Luxúria de Lillith has a long discography, this was their first actual full length album. Nevertheless, I picked it up because the band was Brazilian. I love South American black metal. Luxúria de Lillith, and any other South American black metal band, produce so much hate and evilness in their music. The funny thing is that the music still sounds fucking awesome.

Luxúria de Lillith and Cradle of Filth have so much in common. Both bands have extensive use of keyboards, both have female singers, although Cradle of Filth has hardly any choruses. The best song Cradle of Filth ever wrote is Nymphetamine; they're still trying to get something like it again but they've been failing miserably. Luxúria de Lillith has two tracks that I believe are equal to Nymphetamine. The tracks are Da Morte Para Todo Fim and the self-titled song Luxúria de Lillith. There's a buildup to the choruses with keyboards and fast drumming and catchy melodic riff. The choruses are mixture of black, death, and female vocals. The chorus is loud and harsh but yet again melodic at the same time. The reason I love these songs is because the female singer never sang on her own. It showed what happens when you mix all these vocals together and you'll get a masterpiece. The rest of the songs are pretty generic and nothing special.

The thing that I disliked about this album is the instrumentals. I feel they're pointless and the album would be better off without them. One of the instrumentals sounds like a country song - boring shit. Another is literally ambience; technically wasting my time just like Varg Vikernes has been doing to his fans for the past 15 years. There’s one more thing about this album, I'm not sure if I can consider this a good or bad thing. The guitar riffs literally sounds like a lawn mower. I enjoyed all the riffs but sometimes they feel odd. It’s funny but weird at the same time. I understand they don’t have the best production, but I’ll give them credit for trying their best at achieving a melodic sound.

I have the version with a bonus track from their older demos, and it sounds as if it was recorded in a volcano. Thank god I had it because originally I was going to hunt down some of their old stuff. This album is the best to start with if you want to see the band's best work. I do not recommend any earlier releases as they all have terrible production. This album is Cradle of Filth's Nymphetamine little twin. Funny it was released a year after it.
