Lurk - Lurk

Earth shaking doom - 85%

Nightwalker, April 19th, 2012

Just like Tort this band is a newly signed name on the TotalRust label. While Tort relies on a more 'old school' sludge-approach, Lurk chooses to kick off with a sound drenched in slow death metal and Neurosis-influenced sludge.

In contrast to Tort, this band doesn't sound as raw. Hypnotizing sludge riffing combined with crushing death metal grunts and screams make it sound like Lurk is already a veteran in the business. As a result, this disc doesn't bore for one second. On top of that, the riffing reverberates through your head for hours on end once the album finishes. A song like Unfinished really blows your mind and emphasizes the riffing of which I'm talking about. The absolute highlight of this - far too short - album is Fire the Blood Sky. It gets your head banging. It keeps your head banging. And far after the songs ending has resonated through your eardrums, it will still keep you rocking back and forth on the soothing echos it has implanted in your brain.

This band is absolutely worth your time if you like TotalRust label-mates Lords of Bukkake and Pyramido. Also lovers of Kongh and Thrown, and I dare even say Necros Christos and Drowned, shouldn't hesitate to give this band a try!
