Lost Society - Fast Loud Death

The title says it all - 95%

EddieMachete, January 18th, 2015

Lost Society is a thrash metal band consisting of four fantastic musicians from Finland that are as solid as can be, and know how to pump you the fuck up. They started in 2010, brought together by singer, Samy Elbanna. E.A.G. was the first song they wrote together and a little over 10 songs and a thousand beers later they recorded this brilliant album. Fast Loud Death.

What can I say about this album? I instantly got attached to it. You absolutely cannot ignore that opener. It grabs you like a tornado. I was introduced to it by a friend of mine about a year ago, and can't thank him enough. It's practically Rock and Roll on speed considering they use the pentatonic scale in just about every song. Is it generic? Yes. Are the lyrics absurd? Yes. Is it overproduced? Yes. Yet I buy it, and any thrash metal fan that doesn't is out of their mind. You gotta take it for what it is, man.

As I said before, N.W.L. just snatches you right up and takes you on a wild ride. You just want to keep hearing more. I'm certain that Samy says "Oh!" or "Go!" in just about every song. The lyrics aren't the worlds greatest, but you can actually feel the earsplitting rage of his voice. I don't care what he's saying or how many times he says "motherfucker". He's pissed and it's clear. It goes remarkably well with the fast, bluesy riffs/solos and pinch harmonics. The drummer, Ossi, has a unique sound in a sense. His snare smashes your skull into a thousand pieces. I think my ears bled 10 seconds into "Kill (Those Who Oppose Me)". The backup vocals are quite overused. They even have a couple 2 minute songs that consist of just backup vocals and no lead vocals. (Although "Toxic Avenger" is one of my favorite songs on the album).

I have no clue which one of the four wrote these songs. It couldn't have taken no longer than 15 minutes to write some of the lyrics. If you're looking for a deep, moralistic message then this is not your album. The lyrics aren't exactly principled, but they're definitely straightforward. For example, E.A.G. (Emos Are Gay). You can't get any more brutally honest! The message I'm getting through these lyrics is that they don't give a shit what people think, and they're having fun doing it. "This is me. Fuck you."

All in all, it's an album you can listen to from start to finish and be very pleased with. I recommend it to any thrash metal fan looking for fairly new metal bands. The generality, absurd cussing and lyrics, and overproduction makes the album. Just crank it up and enjoy.
