Lizardia - The Serpent's Trace

Great! - 85%

Cleanser, March 15th, 2013

The ideal mix of doom metal and stoner-heavy rock. These lads from Greece have released a very tasty album (or demo if you prefer) that has the power and abilities to stand among the finest releases of the defined genres above. No kidding!

The first track (Fine Dead Lady) is quite a "beautiful" song with a catchy sing-along chorus, while the second one (Death In The Womb) is a fine doom metal effort that reminds me a lot of the early Trouble stuff. Next, Where Only Lizard Quietly Weave, is my favourite track with its oriental melody throughout the song, powerful vocals, and the almost hypnotizing rhythm with steady drumming and the clever guitar playing.

Inertia starts off the, lets say, second part and it's a great middle-paced track with lots of good riffs all the way. Very catchy this one, too. Box of Sweets is the rockiest song of the album and I really dig this one for its simple, but fabulous rhythm. I don't really like the next one (Ladder Of Grace) because it kinda ruins the flow and I believe it's quite a mediocre song (sorry, lads). The album ends with a cover from Pentagram's Be Forewarned, a very good cover indeed with a very good vocal performance.

All in all, a great...truly great effort by the Greeks. Waiting for the next official release.
