Lividity - Perverseverance

The Masters Return! - 100%

Akerthorpe, December 12th, 2018

Well, what can be said about the band Lividity? Regardless of what is said, one thing is certain, They have not compromised their ideals or values in their long and vile existence. Whether is has been done for shock value or a more deeply rooted purpose, Lividity have been one of the sickest bands that have ever graced the genre of death metal. Having a history dating back to 1995, Lividity have been raping ears and distorting minds since their inception, and for their determination and every note of devastation, they should be highly respected. With that being said, their new release “Perseverance” is the stuff that death metal dreams are made of. The riffage is a refined approach compared to their early days. Not necessarily more technical, but not as raw as earlier albums and I think we can chalk that up to the stellar production values. The riffs are, also, not as gritty as older material, but more precise and devastating than anything they’ve done before. Reminiscent of bands like Aborted and Impaled with vibes of Malevolent Creation, Vader, and Gorerotted. The awesome production can also be felt in the drum work. The toms and snares have a distinct but equal and thick voracity which accompanies the double bass in elevating the pulse of this album to epic proportions.

Also accompanying the riffs and drums is the bass which is the final nail in the coffin of this death metal insanity. The low end rumbles in this album are shaking foundations everywhere, letting you know that the nightmare of Lividity is still, very much, a reality. Ready and waiting to infect your heart and soul with an intensity that commands reverence and respect. The vocals have only gotten more sickening and devastating over the years, and this album shows more intense growls and vomits that are seemingly summoned from the vast abyss of perversity and annihilation. Uttered in pure spewing agony, The vocals on this album complete the devastating mastery of this musical art.

I remember listening to Lividity in the demo days and have had the pleasure of corresponding with them through the mail years ago. They treat their fans with the same respect and reverence as they do the music, because they realize that they are just as big of a part of the scene and genre. When you have a band who has this kind of work ethic, respect for the fans, and the experience to back it all up, there are no limits to the heights of success they can have. At the end of the day, they are definitely masters of the art, but after hearing this new release, you may want to refer to them as legends!
