LETHAL – WARRIORS

Lethal’s second LP is totally sung in English except for the last song “Vida Artificial”, this is Lethal’s attempt at international distribution. I guess that’s the reason why UltraBoris has got it. Because it is very hard to find this album, even here in Argentina, I had to search for it several years before buying it used, and I really listen to this band, I even attend to Lethal’s shows.

The album starts off with “Standing On The Line” which is a hellraising cut from start to finish featuring some angry vocals, aggressive rhythm work, a good interlude, solid riffs and excellent leads. “Warriors In The Night" is a slice of sheer thrash brilliance that lasts 7:00 minutes. It features a solid and headbanger riff backed up by consistent drum work. “Fight” is another total thrasher with a very catchy chorus and awesome guitar leads in the middle. Next is “The Face On The Coin” which is a fast paced mind blowing track with great gang vocals, relentless drumming and fine soloing.

“Desert Rats” starts with a little intro and then a monstrous thrash riff descends to kill everybody, again we hear that trademark gang vocals, the relentless drumming and a good middle break. “Living From The Pain” has a solid thrash riff and excellent leads. The song is heavy as hell and with a pounding and pummelling drum work. “Transylvania” is another straight thrasher song with the same structure as the third track but with more interesting vocals, great leads and mesmerizing bass lines. Finally comes “Vida Artificial” which is a pure thrasher with a great chorus, a blazing-fast riff and total insane soloing.

Tito Garcia has a very raw and simple voice but also very effective, you don´t need to have a falsetto to be good. Great solos and thrashy riffs abound on this album courtesy of the guitar duo, Charly Guillen/Claudio Ortiz. Luis Sanchez´s drumming is remarkable, always pummelling and precise, especially in the double-bass parts. Eddie Walker delivers some quality bass lines supporting those tremendous riffs. Something you will notice is that there are lots of gang vocals especially in the choruses, in this album the gang vocals are favourable, but it will turn to be annoying on some parts of their last album called “5.0”.

Conclusion: A frenetic slice of punishing thrash that is so fast that it crushes everything recorded at that same year except some Horcas stuff. Almost 40 minutes of one of the best metal albums from 1992 definitively.
