This CDR single was sent to me by the band along with their debut album to show me where they are now, and i'm glad to say they haven't changed in the slightest bit. 'Ashes for Eyes' is as typical a stoner/doom song you can probably get. The song start somewhere in between slow and mid-paced, just the right speed for your general drugged out groove, with the usual not quite sung, not quite muttered vocals and quite bouncy drums to accompany. The song gets a bit more intense in the middle, like that middle section of Black Sabbath's self-titled song but a bit faster, before going back to the riffset from the beginning again. Great retro doom. I love it.
'Clear Ass' is slightly more upbeat, and is generally the same thing. The great thing about mid-paced stoner metal (or certainly the good bands) is how each and every song is pure gold and entirley disposable at the same time. That's what's so great about it. The riffs of said bands even seems to reflect this kind of attitude, which adds to the charm immensely. This music sounds just as lazy as it does fucked off, and both songs wander along a fine line between "can't be assed" and "totally commited to doom". Thus is the great charm behind doom, and King of the Dead.
Enough of my meaningless ranting, King of the Dead are a good band playing a good style of music. End of.
