The Underwater Adventure of King Bong - 80%

FinneganAwaken, January 16th, 2016

Maybe King Bong is not the best band of its genre but it's definitely an interesting one. That is mainly due to their unusual approach to music. All of their albums are actually live recordings, recorded without any overdubs - what you hear is exactly what the band played and as it is stated on their official Bandcamp page, their music is mostly improvised. This album is no exception.

PINNG features one, nearly 36 minutes long, track which is not a single song but a suite consisting of nine movements. The album's subtitle "The Underwater Adventures of a Young Cthulhu" accurately describes its content. It's a 36 minute trip of a constant balance between powerful doomy riffs and psychedelic melodies that actually remind of an underwater adventure (just checkout the movement which starts at approximately 17 minutes). Although not all riffs in PINNG are 1st class, there are definitely much more good moments than the bad ones and so it's rather hard to get bored, especially when you're currently listening to that cool and catchy riff which starts at 11:06.

I must say that PINNG offers a short but easily enjoyable adventure. Well done, guys!
