What happens when a german Grindcore band records their songs on an 8-track recorder on cassettes and PC's? You get a Best Of release 8 years later, with Napalm Death influenced old school Grindcore, with german lyrics, that make you laugh and think, but mostly laugh. And although the tracks are recorded on cassettes of Aldi and was not rematered for the Best Of release, the sound is better than you would suppose. And the amount of the songs - this is then all you need. Now you don't need to look and search, give your blood and kidnies to find the demos, splits and EP's, 'Früher War Auch Nicht Alles Gut' has them all. 32 songs are enuff to make you grind your teeth, and especially with the "hidden track" #33 - a cover of Slayer's "Raining Blood"; but it's a Japanische Kampfhörspiele (further JAKA) cover, and it means it's not the usual covering of a song. Almost in the range of the original, but finally grinding.
JAKA play fucking furious Grindcore, no Gore, no splatter, simply Grindcore, politcally incorrect, lyrically weird and interesting. Take the time to read some of the lyrics, if you are capable of the german language, the best language to be litterally incoherrent, and to state your thoughts in a poetic way. Some of the lyrics remind of Porngrind, but they are fed up with the german way of poems and Goethe's way of describing things. Writing lyrics in german is unusual for Grindcore bands, but JAKA seem not to give a fuck about it. They do it their way, and they do it good. The vocalist scream all the time, yelling them lyrics into the mic, and here and there he growls them.
The most interesting in the music of JAKA is the unpredictable factor; "Ihr habt euch schön gemacht" sound like a fucking Immortal Blekk Metal song. Some of the songs sound even like Crustcore songs. The drummer is a real beast. His drumming is not the usual pounding and battering of blast beats and furious slammings. In a certain way he reminds me of Kai hahto, formerly in Rotten Sound now member of Wintersun. Every Grindcore motherfucker should have a piece of JAKA in his beef. The political incorrectness of the band, the song themes and lyrics, the chords and the furiousdrumming - perfect Grindcore from Germany. These guys are sick, pretty sick.
