Intestinal Infestation - Rehearsal

Interesting to say the least - 65%

Written based on this version: 1988, Independent

I listened to this demo a couple times on Youtube after exhausting my days of Napalm Death, Painkiller, Unseen Terror, and other Mick Harris side projects. What we have here is a screechy demo made by Mick and Unseen Terror. As for the music there is not much to say here. Mitch's riffs remind me a bit of Jesse Pintado's Terrorizer riffs but are played more loosely and tend to repeat themselves often. The bass lines are very eerie, really setting a mood for Mick's completely insane screams. The four songs presented here sound almost exactly the same and switch between Unseen Terror (Peel Sessions EP) sounding grindage and more calculated mosh riffs that slow the tempo. There are rarely any switches between drum beats, Harris uses roughly 3 to 4 at most on this demo.

What draws me back to listening to this is it is another piece of history where Mick Harris is completely maniacal behind the mic. There are no lyrics to any of the songs (even if there are, they are undiscernable) and is more a sonic attack on the ears than a listening experience where you are looking for some meaning behind the music. It's a raw experience that is more an objective one than subjectively picking apart the music or lyrics. It's just a few death/grind riffs thrown together with some steadfast drumming and weird basslines. Mick and Mitch scream like tortured hyenas throughout every song. Especially Mick, showcasing his trademark, near Satanic Donald Duck wail in every selection. This is for fans of Painkiller and Napalm Death for sure. You can also hear the crew in the room make banter as each song ends.

I enjoy listening to this every once in a while, as the vocal delivery is meant to crush one's eardrums with noise, bottom line. The shouts are almost Cocteau Twins style, being that all the words they scream are made up and the voice serves to add more noise to the already chaotic scene in this rehearsal. I would suggest this to any fans of Painkiller, Terrorizer, or Unseen Terror. It's a listenable demo and is an interesting relic in the repertoire of Mick Harris and Shane's legacy. Definitely not something I would delve into daily but will definitely catch one's attention who craves the noise and cacophony of bands like Sore Throat.
