Internal Bleeding have been an influential death metal band for over 25 years now. I have enjoyed all of their albums. However, one of the things I have enjoyed the most is Bill Tolley's simple drumming. I will say that many of my favorite drummers are speed freaks and technical wizards, but its nice to listen to some more simple music sometimes to see where many of the newer bands in the death metal and slam scene got their influences. I remember the day that I learned of Bill's death. It was the day after it happened (if I am not mistaken), and I had just started to really get into the band. Now, almost a year after the tragic passing of Bill, I am really able to develop an even larger love for this band. Bill Tolley, rest in peace man, you are a legend. Now onto the song.
The song starts of with a nice riff, and after a few seconds, the blast beats begin, and it sounds epic. It then gets groovy with the vocals, and then the blast beats start again. It follows the riffs for a while, while adding some new riffs into the mix as the song goes on. There is some nice double bass by Bill as well. Then, it happens. The band performs a near perfect transition into one of the heaviest slams they have ever done. It is crazy. The slam is soon followed by a nice guitar solo, some more heavy riffs, and then the song ends, leaving you wanting more.
Conclusion: I found this song to be a mix of Internal Bleeding's old school writing and playing mixed with great and heavy production. The song is memorable, heavy, and it has one of the band's best slams. It is also the song that was dedicated to Bill Tolley after his passing. The song will always remind you of Bill's tragic death, so in a way, this song is helping to keep his spirit alive. If the rest of the new album is this good, I will be a very happy man.
