Interfector - The Force Within

First class prog/black metal! - 90%

makaze, October 15th, 2004

After some time, I have the chance to present you the debut full-length album of Interfector, metal band from the city of Banja Luka (Bosnia & Herzegovina). This album is entitled "The Force Within" and was recorded in 2002 in Kazablanka studio. It took some time until band got signed and to album to be released, but finally it's here! Antares (keyboards) joined just before the studio session, so Interfector is now a fourpiece (Apeiron - drums, Carcass - vocals/bass, Invictus - guitars/back vocals). Some of the songs were rearanged and feature whole new kind of sound. If I was to put a label on their music, I could say they are melodic/old-school black metal band with folk influences and progressive bass and drumwork. Death metal elements are visible as well, but not getting in the front. This is truly an original mix and probably the strongest weapon these guys have. First song off this album is "Mother Serbia", patriotic song, which is a great example of folk influences I already mentioned. The intro of the song is really powerful! Second song, "Alienation", is actually the first song Interfector have written, and it's pure evil black/death metal. Blastbeats in the start, some technical death metal soundscapes - in the end you will have one powerful and angry song. "The Dark One" comes from the band's early period as well and has the same strength and agressiveness. Keyboards are featured only in choruses. Much better guitar work, riff based mostly, but a hell good one! They don't take the prisoners!

Next one, "Temple of Desire", is some kind of ballad, maybe not exacly what would you expect from one. It's very powerful and dark, and to be honest clean vocals are not exacly what I expected (as I have heard this band live, and vocals are much better!), but there is Marta Vlahovic (Abonos) who gives a lot for the choruses. "Buried Memories" shows the technically strong side of the band, with great drums and bass parts. It seems like Apeiron was influenced by Igor Cavalera a bit on this song. Nice tribal drum work. "S Druge Strane Svetla" is more into melodic black/gothic kind of metal. I could say it's really mainstream, but it's a good one. Nice keyboard work and female vocals by Marija & Marta. If I could pick the best song off the album, "The Lightbringer" would be the one. An explosion, lightbringer indeed! One of the fastest and most effective songs, combining the best sides of black and death metal. "Dark Saga" is (as you might had foresaw) the cover of legendary Iced Earth, and it's done pretty well. It gives new sonding to the old classic. And for the very end, "Na Krilima Noci", blastbeats into the hell itself. The atmosphere is pure black metal of the old-school kind! So, if you haven't heard this band yet - you are missing a lot! Great dynamics, really good album, production, songs... They will shurely become one of the leading metal bands in here, and I think the world is their to conquer!
